Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday or Thursday of the Lord’s Supper, is a Christian celebration that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, as well as his washing of their feet and the establishment of the Eucharist. It is celebrated on the Thursday before Easter and marks the beginning of the Paschal Triduum, which culminates in Easter Sunday. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin “mandatum,” meaning “command,” referring to Jesus’s commandment to love one another during the Last Supper.
